It was really nice being able to take it at our own pace and decide what we wanted to/didn't want to see. The cathedral was our favorite and the one we spent the most time at. Overall, it was a really interesting experience that made us want to return for a second round!!

The tour was done at a nice pace. Our young guide was very knowledgeable, obviously very proud of his country and city. He never rushed anyone, even finishing later than stated. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour, and would highly recommend it.

Top things to do in Prague

Prague Castle | World's largest coherent castle complex

Founded in 880 by Prince Bořivoj, Prague Castle is a UNESCO World Heritage site and the world’s largest castle complex, covering 70,000 m² (that is roughly the size of 10 soccer pitches!). With over 1,000 years of history, it remains a key cultural landmark and symbol of the Czech State. Here’s all the information you need to know to get the most out of your visit to Prague Castle, including ticket details and helpful tips.

Things to know before booking a Prague Castle ticket

  • Priority access and time-saving: During peak times, waiting times at Prague Castle can reach 30 minutes or longer. Opt for Prague Castle tickets including skip-the-line admission for a seamless entry. Select tickets, such as the Prague Castle entry ticket, Lobkowicz Palace Museum + Prague Castle ticket, and Prague Castle + River Cruise ticket,  also provide information on the shortest security check lines, helping you save time.
  • Comprehensive castle access: Access to all the buildings inside the Prague Castle complex, like St. Vitus Cathedral, St. George Basilica, the Old Royal Palace, and more, is included in the Prague Castle admission tickets, except for entry inside Lobkowicz Palace. Book Lobkowicz Palace Museum Tickets with Audio Guide + Prague Castle Tickets to get entry access.
  • Bird's eye view from the South Tower of Saint Vitus Cathedral: Climb 287 steps up the South Tower for stunning 360° views of Prague. The tight spiral staircase leads to a panoramic vista of the city’s landmarks. To access the tower, you'll need to purchase an additional ticket at one of the Prague Castle ticket booths, as tickets aren’t sold at the tower.
  • Timing tips and closures: To catch the Changing of the Guard ceremony at Prague Castle, book your tickets for a time slot between 11am and 12pm. Also, keep in mind that St. Vitus Cathedral is closed on Sunday mornings for church services.
  • Prague Castle night tours: Before you visit Prague, consider taking a Prague Castle Night Tour for an enchanting glimpse of the historic site in a more tranquil setting. The castle's stunning night-time view and its quiet courtyards give you a completely different perspective of the city's rich history.
  • Limited accessibility: Prague Castle isn't entirely wheelchair-friendly. If mobility is a concern, keep this in mind when planning your visit.
  • Entrances to the Castle: Prague Castle has three entrances: the main one on the west near Hradcany Square and Matthias Gate, the east entrance near Lobkowicz Palace at Na Opyši Gate, and a summer entry via the Royal Garden. For those coming from Mala Strana, a 15-minute uphill walk from the Lesser Town Bridge leads to the west side, but it's not recommended for wheelchair users due to the steep climb up the New Castle Stairs.
